Anxiety and Depression
Does Life Sometimes Feel Overwhelming?
We live in a very difficult world today. Relationship issues, political turmoil, social media influence and work stress can leave us feeling overwhelmed and often lead to anxiety and sometimes depression.
The Common Signs of Anxiety
- Worry or excessive fear
- Irritability and mood swings
- Feeling on edge
- Sometimes a rapid heart rate or shortness of breath
- Avoidance of certain situations and activities
- Panic attacks
The Common Signs of Depression
- Changes in appetite or sleep patterns
- Persistent sadness or low mood
- Fatigue or lack of energy
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
- Loss of interest or pleasure in activities
- Feelings of hopelessness
- Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
- Nightmares
- Difficulty controlling thoughts
- Social withdrawal
- Alcohol and/or substance abuse.

Anxiety and depression are both common in our world today and can occur together. While anxiety involves excessive fear and worry, depression is characterized by persistent sadness and a lack of interest in activities once enjoyed.
Knowing where to find help can be a real challenge. It’s important to admit that you may be struggling with anxiety and/or depression. Also, seeking the support of loved ones and a community of friends to help you is valuable.
Often, professional counseling can also be helpful. Being able to share your deepest feelings and thoughts with a professional can start you on the road to recovery and freedom from the all-encompassing darkness that excessive anxiety and depression can cause.
