Marriage and Covid19

marriage during covid

It’s no secret that the COVID-19 virus is putting a tremendous strain on even some of the best marriages. Being stuck in a limit space, working from home and struggling financial security all add up to stress and strain on marriages. There are somethings that you can do to help improve your marriage if the virus is causing your relationship to suffer.

Communication

First, keep the communication flowing between you and your spouse. Eliminate outside distractions when you are communicating on important matters (e.g. turn the TV off!). When there is a possibility of a disagreement on an important matter, make sure that you start a sentence with “I feel”, “I think”, or “I believe” to avoid appearing critical of your spouse. Show empathy toward your partner. Try and get a sense of why they may hold a position on a subject that you may disagree with.

Spend time together

Second, plan a safe outing for you and your spouse where you can get out of your home and enjoy each other’s company (e.g. walks, hiking, your favorite restaurant, short “get away” trips, etc.).

Self Care

Third, make a habit of practicing “self-care”. Getting enough exercise, sleep and eating well are all important factors necessary to take care of yourself, so you can be the best for your spouse.

Most importantly, don’t give up hope that your marriage will improve despite how badly you may feel at any given point in time during this virus. If you would like to read more about helping marriages during these trying times please click on the button below:
